Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Interventional Platform
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is the world’s oldest and largest private institution dedicated to preventing, treating, and curing cancer. In 2000, the institution embarked on a massive renovation and expansion project to create a new surgical platform on its main campus in New York City. Despite the constraints of existing building infrastructure and a dense urban site, the facility, which opened in May 2006, is one of the most advanced of its kind in the world.
KMD, in association with Perkins Eastman Architects, planned and designed the new inpatient surgery department at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York. The Interventional Platform Project contains 21 “state-of-the-future” operating rooms, pre-operating rooms, a PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), and support and administrative functions to form a comprehensive 70,000 SF (6,500 m2) center of excellence. The new surgical platform incorporates cutting-edge healthcare methodologies and technologies while remaining flexible enough to accommodate continuous innovation and adaptation in the future.
