EVERETT, WASHINGTON, USA Changing juvenile sentencing guidelines have resulted in fewer youths being detained in Snohomish County's Denney Juvenile Justice Center. The county saw the unused space as an asset to be utilized in the fight against opioid and other addictions and homelessness among adults.
kmd’s planned renovations, improvements and expansions were designed to convert the vacant space at the 1990s built facility into two 16-Bed (32 Beds) Adult Behavioral Health Treatment Facilities providing treatment and recovery for chemical dependency and co-occurring problems. The facility is supported by North Sound Behavioral Health, an agency providing treatment services to Medicaid and low income patients in five counties in Northwest Washington. A typical stay is approximately 30 days depending on individual patient needs.
The lack of open beds in drug treatment programs is often a major obstacle for police, social workers and medical personnel dealing with victims of addiction. As a result, people who need treatment end up in emergency rooms or in jail, at great public expense. kmd has been a leader in the design and planning of facilities for treatment and recovery since its inception.
